Sustainability in the Workplace

Today, sustainability is mainstream. And, being environmentally conscious does elevate a business above the competition. In the workplace, we are seeing higher demand for sustainable practices and work space options.

Workplaces are opting to use sustainable materials for office fit outs and furniture. For example, Autex offers a diverse range of polyester products manufactured using 100% polyester fibre and contains a minimum of 45% previously recycled fibre (from PET plastics). They are doing their part reusing materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill. During the manufacturing process Autex are using heat and compression rather than adhesive or other materials that are harmful to the environment. This process also creates a safe product with wide application use – that’s a win for all.

Opting for products that are recyclable at the end of their life is a consideration. Autex use Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) to understand the environmental impacts of their products and set targets to reduce these. All products have been verified as low VOC and are free from chemical binders making them great for indoor environmental quality (IEQ). After all, we don’t want to see entire office fit outs and furniture end up in the landfill at the end of their use by date.

Long term cost savings. Sustainable management of resources; water, energy, paper, means spending less money on removing waste and constantly replacing disposable resources.

Happier, more productive employees. “Companies who embed sustainability into their business strategy have employees who are happier at work because they feel empowered to be a part of a bigger effort and a greater impact. This sense of purpose inspires motivation and engagement which overflows into their workday.” Read more about this here

Employer branding influenced by sustainable practices. Gen Y consumers are influenced by sustainable value propositions suggesting sustainable business practices are high on the list when considering working for a business.

The simple things. Work places are ticking the boxes by deploying the ‘simple things’ when it comes to sustainability. Recycling stations, compostable single use cups or better office products, energy efficient technology, natural light, renewable energy, or paperless offices to name a few.

At Interstall, we incorporate sustainable practices into our every day practice from waste disposal to backing sustainably produced products. If we can help connect you with professionals in this space, please reach out to discuss.
